MFA sculpture gets a Red Sox makeover

We’re not sure sculptor Cyrus Dallin would be a big Jonny Gomes guy — or want Daniel Nava back in left — but his iconic work, “Appeal to the Great Spirit,” a statue in front of the Museum of Fine Arts’ Huntington Avenue entrance, has been given a Bosox makeover in the wake of Wednesday’s World Series victory. It is a work of art, so the MFA notes that experts were called in — costume conservator Joel Thompson and collections engineer Dante Vallance — to properly outfit the Native American figure, seated with arms outstretched on a horse, with a size XXL Red Sox jersey.
