The Red Sox well-deserved victory lap continued with outfielders Jonny Gomes and Shane Victorino taking seats on Conan O’Brien ’s couch. The talk show host, who grew up in Brookline and graduated from Harvard, could barely conceal his excitement over the World Series win, and was mighty impressed that the Commissioner’s Trophy was placed at the Boston Marathon finish line during Saturday’s parade. “We’re supposed to be the strong backs to carry everyone and put smiles on their faces,” Gomes said. “But I think it was the other way around. We jumped on Boston’s back. They wouldn’t let us quit. . . . If everyone in Boston could get a ring, they deserve one, too.” Gomes also took credit for pitcher Jake Peavy’s purchase of a Duck Boat after the parade. “Two months ago, [Peavy] showed me his property in Alabama. I think he owns three-quarters of the state. He’s going through all these pictures and I’m like ‘You don’t have a duck boat,’ so when we go, you like buy the exact duck boat you ride on and you ship that pig to Alabama,” said Gomes. “And he did. . . . Now we can have a World Series parade any time we want at Jake’s house.” Comedian Artie Lange, a big Yankees fan, was also on the show and admitted he has a soft spot for the Sox. Why? “Because the first girl I ever had sex with looked like David Ortiz,” he said.
