London Olympics gold medalist Kayla Harrison, 23, (center) was the big honoree at the Boston Area Rape Crisis Center’s 40th annual Champions for Change Gala & Auction Friday night at the Renaissance Boston Waterfront Hotel. The judo champion revealed in 2011 that she was sexually abused by her coach when she was a teenager. She was commended by the local organization for helping empower those who’ve gone through similar experiences. She and her medal were surrounded at the event by (from left) Councilor Tito Jackson, the center’s executive director, Gina Scaramella, and one of the center’s founders, Janet Yassen. The night raised $346,270.
