The on-again off-again movie based on the book, “Black Mass: Whitey Bulger, the FBI, and a Devil’s Deal,” is apparently on again. Deadline.com reports that Johnny Depp is once more on board to play Bulger in the movie to be directed by Scott Cooper. Depp had previously pulled out of the project when producers asked him to accept half of his usual $20 million fee. Also, Joel Edgerton, who was believed to be playing corrupt FBI agent John Connolly in the film, is out and British actor Tom Hardy is now in talks t0 take the role, according to Deadline. “Black Mass,” based on the book by former Boston Globe reporters Dick Lehr and Gerard O’Neill, is one of two Whitey movies in the works. Ben Affleck is set to direct a Bulger movie based on a script by Terry Winter, whose credits include HBO’s “Boardwalk Empire.”
