No protesters were seen early this afternoon outside of Market Basket headquarters in Tewksbury. But plenty are expected to be on-hand at one of the company’s Tewksbury stores later Saturday.
“Customer Appreciation Night,’’ scheduled for 6 p.m. Saturday, is organized by a group of customers, largely coordinated via social media. It invites Market Basket customers to “come and show support’’ for drivers, warehouse workers, and all company associates.
Just one day earlier, Market Basket employees continued to protest at that same Tewksbury location despite facing a deadline that same day to return to work or risk losing their jobs.
On Friday, a trucker driving for Market Basket was arrested by Tewksbury Police after allegedly leaving his truck and engaging with protesters while holding a hammer outside company headquarters.
Many Market Basket employees have remained steadfast that they will not return to work without the reinstatement of Demoulas. But Saturday’s rally is meant to emphasize another part of the ongoing conflict: Customers’ ongoing boycott.
A previous version of this article indicated the rally would occur at Market Basket headquarters in Tewksbury, rather than at one of its Tewksbury stores. We regret the error.
