By Associated Press, 4/4/03

GREENWICH, Conn. -- Organizers of an upcoming lecture series on French impressionism debated not serving croissants at the event, fearing anti-France sentiment would keep people away.

Grady Turner, curator of the Greenwich Historical Society, said he wasn't worried people would boycott the exhibit based on the art. But croissants were a different story.

After debating the croissant issue, organizers decided to take a chance on the baked goods.

"There was a general feeling that we could take that risk, that there will be croissants," Turner said.

Despite the debate, Turner said ticket sales for Thursday's lecture have been brisk.

But to be on the safe side, he said, "There will also be scones for those who want to show their loyalty to the Brits."
