Backlog at state crime lab delaying Truro slay case

HYANNIS, Mass. -- Test results from evidence collected in the slaying of a Cape Cod fashion writer show "significant" information which could lead to an arrest, authorities say.

Christa Worthington, 46, was found stabbed to death Jan. 6 on the kitchen floor of her Truro home. Her 3-year-old daughter, unharmed, was found clinging to her mother's body.

"I've said all along that this case will ultimately be solved," prosecutor Michael O'Keefe said.

Evidence sent to the state crime lab in January was returned only last month.

"It yielded some significant information for the police," said O'Keefe, who refused to confirm that it was DNA evidence. "I never said what kind of evidence it is, nor am I saying now."

O'Keefe would not comment on when he thinks there will be an arrest. He did, however, say the notoriously slow crime lab has caused delays.

Worthington's daughter is now in the custody of a friend.

After college, Worthington spent 20 years on the fashion circuit, hopping from New York to Paris to London, covering haute couture for Cosmopolitan, Elle and Women's Wear Daily.

Soon after she moved to Cape Cod, she met Tony Jackett, a married father of six who worked as Truro's shellfish constable. They had an affair, which produced their daughter.

Worthington's body was discovered by Tim Arnold, an ex-boyfriend who said he was returning a flashlight
