Cheryl Tavares' body found in car trunk

Hampden, Maine — A man arrested this morning in Hampden, Maine, is wanted for a murder near Cape Cod.

Police say Leonard Giroux, 21, of Bourne will face a murder charge in the strangulation death of Cheryl Tavares, 40, of Wareham.

Tavares' body was discovered in the trunk of a car parked in the Sagamore commuter lot off Rte. 3 in Bourne.

Giroux was arrested in his father's trailer in Hampden on a warrant for failing to appear in Maine court to answer misdemeanor criminal mischief charges.

Giroux is being held at the Hampden Police Department, where he was awaiting questioning by Massachusetts detectives.
