James and Mary Trentini, 65 and 67, of Everett: He was a longtime teacher, coach, and administrator at Burlington High School before he retired about seven years ago. He coached football and other sports, and had a reputation as a teacher often sought out by troubled students looking for advice. Before she retired, Mary
Trentini was the assistant to the athletic director at Triton High School in Rowley for 20 years. The Trentinis, with a suitcase full of gifts, were heading to California to babysit three grandchildren.
Michael Theodoridis, 32, of Boston: IT consultant. He was traveling to Tokyo with his wife Rahma Salie to attend a wedding. A native of Greece, he grew up in Switzerland and graduated from Boston University.
Pendyala Vamsikrishna, 30, of Los Angeles: Software engineer at DDI Inc. in Fremont, Calif. He came to the United States from India in 1992. He graduated from Rolla University in Missouri. He leaves his wife, Prasanna.
Mary Alice Wahlstrom, 78, of Kaysville, Utah: Was returning to her daughter Carolyn Beug's home in California after dropping her twin granddaughters off for their freshman year at the Rhode Island School of Design.
Kenneth Waldie, 46, of Methuen: Senior quality-control engineer at Raytheon Co.. Married with four children, he was on his way to meetings in Southern California. He graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy, taught electronics to coworkers, and was quick to lend a hand, according to friends at work.
John J. Wenckus, 46, of Torrance, Calif.: Tax consultant. He was returning home after visiting family in Waltham.
Candace Lee Williams, 20, of Danbury, Conn.: Northeastern University student. She was in her third year, studying business, and had worked at Merrill Lynch as part of her cooperative education program. "She was such a positive person," said Mary Kane, a Northeastern co-op adviser. "She was just really enjoying this time in her life. She was just excited about everything."
Christopher R. Zarba Jr., 47, of Hopkinton: Software engineer at Concord Communications in Marlborough. He leaves a wife and young son. Zarba's birthday would have been Saturday, Sept. 15.
