It is very frustrating to me to see the ACLU and other organizations come to the protection of the people associated with these organizations time and time again. Eight years ago, when the Trade Center was bombed, investigators found that there were terrorist cells associated with Ben Laden and others here in America, Boston included. Why are they allowed to stay in this country and enable the people who commit these acts of terrorism. They are terrorists too. We are at war, and as far as I'm concerned the rule of law should be thrown out the window. To hell with their civil liberties, detain them, jail them, deport them. I have heard rumors that there are Islamic temples in the US that were celebrating yesterday's tragedy. This is too much. We must be much more proactive, I for one am willing to give some privacy and liberties so that we all can live in a safer world.
Gail, Weymouth
I think feelings of vulnerability, fear, loss of security, etc. are exactly what the bad guys want us to feel. That's what terrorists do. They want to destabilize the US from the inside, by creating an atmosphere of panic, of fear. They can use that to destabilize industry, economy, government. They want us to be so afraid that we're paralyzed, that the whole country is paralyzed. They want us to be afraid to go out of our houses. They want us looking at the skies searching for crashing planes heading towards us. They want us to think that America isn't the most powerful nation on the planet anymore. Has the country changed? Of course. But please don't let it change the way the bad guys want it to change. They fight with explosives and knives and planes, but they also fight psychologically by creating fear. Don't let 'em.

My cousin worked on the top floor of one of the towers and is presumed dead. I am sickened to my core that something like this could happen, and I hope that the government does retaliate against any and all groups/nations involved!

Yesterday and these days to come did and will challenge every fiber of our selves. Throughout our lives, we have wondered how we would react in the wake of nuclear war or some other horrific act or natural disaster. On September 11, 2001, we were tested. And we reacted with empathy and fear, compassion and a surreal understanding of the events that happened on such a beautiful sunny day. Throughout this terrifying experience, we maintained contact with our families and friends and smiled at strangers, knowing that we were, in fact, connected to all of them. Nobody was untouched by this incident. I hope what we can remember through all the years of the rest of our lives that we are together as a nation, under God, just as our Pledge says. My heart goes out to all of those who have lost anyone, close or an aquaintance. Feel confident that we are grieving with you, and that we will stand by you in these hardest of times. Godspeed.

The world is an ugly place, and that ugliness, which America has heretofor been insulated from, has been brought into our homes. This should not and can not diminish our resolve or our ideals. We are a free nation and must remain so, especially in the face of this horror.
Some things must change though. All those who are terrorist or who support terrorists have made a choice to do so, whatever their reasons. They have bought that life and now it is time for them to pay for it. The World must be made to understand that American response to such actions will be swift and terrible, the likes of which this World has not seen before.

Now we know what the Israelis and Irish and others around the worls go through every day and it's horrible! I wish I could say that what the FAA is doing to secure our airports will be effective, but it won't. These religious terrorists can only be stopped by setting a terrible example this time...by finding them and killing them. They want to go to Allah. Let's help.

Lives lost could have been significantly reduced if the pilot and crew hand both protective arms and training.
How can we trust pilots and crew with the lives of hundreds of people and not give them the necessary equipment to provide protection in such events!
Why has no one said anything about putting armed professional security (i.e. police, in-flight patrol) on aircraft. Or providing armed training for the pilot and crew.
And I'm ALL FOR strong gun control laws.
Tamara, Plymouth
The emotional process was like a
whirlwind for me - first the shock, then
the sadness, and finally the anger. I
can't get the images from yesterday out
of my mind. How horribly disturbing that
this kind of evil exists in the world
and that it has so devastatingly and
permanently changed the lives of all.

After such a horrifying and shocking day, I fear more about the hear and now. I want who ever did this to pay just like everyone else, but we can't just blame every mid-eastern person that passes. That is my greatest fear right now- that we are going to start turning on ourselves. We just need to remain calm and pray that responsibility of that terrifying day will go to the one responsible.
Kate, Malden
Our reactions to this tragedy will be a test of our individual characters and our character as a nation. It may be a long time before we can be sure who is responsible for this and I pray that we get back on our feet without lashing out at innocent people in the meantime. Let's mourn the dead and hear the stories of the people directly affected. Let's hug the loved ones we still have with us. But I hope we do not seek vengeance blindly. Reassure your Islamic friends you know they had nothing to do with this. It would be a terribly different country if we start fearing each other.
