Has this country changed?

"This is a different country this morning," the Globe's David Shribman writes, a nation brought to a breathless, terrified standstill. Do you feel vulnerable, afraid? Have we lost our freedom, our sense of security, our breezy confidence? Share your thoughts.

Jonathan, Gloucester
America and Americans are stronger than those who dwell on disaster and calamity. We have proved it in history, and we will prove it again. We will prevail. We shall never lose our spirit. We will overcome this travesty and go on to a brighter, more secure future.

Joe Smith, Boston
why don't we insist George W. negotiate with the terrorists, like Colin Powell insists that Israel do, almost daily?
wake up, america! There is no difference betwen Bin Ladn, Yasser Arafat, the Hizbullah, etc. They're all a bunch of thugs, and deserve the same treatment.

Maureen Richard, Lynn
I cried yesterday for the victims and their loved ones. I cried for the survivors that will live with this horror each day forward. I cried for my children who don't fully understand, but will always be affected. I cried for the schools that must now teach this as part of American History. Most of all, I cried for America for she will never to the same. God Bless America!

Tacitus, Rome
In the weeks and months to come, the warmth of our wrath and determination to avenge those killed and scour the earth of those responsible should wipe away the fear and insecurity we have all felt at some point these last twenty four hours.
As for losing our freedom, no matter that the media says, America is a free nation and will remain so till its dying day. For what is America without its freedom?

Matt McDonnell, Cambridge
I'm angry that it's come to this. Our arrogance as a nation has given us a false sense of security and now much of that has been undermined.
It's time that we stand together, united under one flag. We must work hard as a nation and let the terrorists know that we won't fear them, we won't be defeated and that, one way or another, we will have justice.

Brian, Somerville
It feels like the world is holding its breath. We, the United States, have had tragedies in the past, we've had grief, but it has been generations since we have been united in rage. In the next few days, we're going to come down on someone like the wrath of God. I only hope it's the right target.

Tim, Holbrook
No, they only have one chance to surprise us. Now they must see what happens when they attack us on American soil.

Matt, S. Boston
These attacks; well planned, cowardly, evil and devastating have taken away even more faith that I had in my fellow man. I know that this act of war was carried out by only a few extremists. But just the fact that any group of people are more than willing to suicidially attack innocent people makes me sick. The natural reaction is revenge. Where do you get it? How do you find these terrorists? It will be intersting to see how the U.S. performs its retaliation

Julie, Amesbury
I am scared. I am scared for the families of the victims. I am scared for those who do not know yet if loved ones are alive or dead. I am scared for America.

Danny, Quincy
What saddens me most is there are thousands, perhaps ten of thousands people in the world celebrating yesterday's attack. And what exactly have we done to deserve this? Except police the world, give aid in time of need, and promote that all people on this planet should have certain unalienable rights, secured by governments.
