NEWARK, N.J. -- The FBI said Thursday that the Postal Service will send out fliers to the public in an effort to find whoever mailed four anthrax-laced letters from central New Jersey.
The fliers may include details such as excerpts from the FBI profile about the suspect, a handwriting sample from the tainted letters and a reminder of the $1 million reward residents can receive for providing information that leads to an arrest and conviction, FBI Special Agent Sandra Carroll said.
"It's just to keep the information out there," Carroll said.
The fliers will go out to residents of the Trenton and Philadelphia areas, where the investigation has been based, and perhaps throughout New Jersey, she said.
The FBI hopes to send them out by the end of the month, although the wording of the fliers has not been determined, she said. It was unknown how many fliers will be sent.
Four anthrax-laced letters passed through the Trenton-area postal processing plant in Hamilton. Two, addressed to NBC News anchor Tom Brokaw and the New York Post, were postmarked Sept. 18. Two others were postmarked Oct. 9 and mailed to Sens. Tom Daschle, D-S.D., and Patrick Leahy, D-Vt.
Five people have died of anthrax and 13 others who were diagnosed with anthrax have recovered.
