Statement by the Episcopal Diocese of Massachusetts
12/13/02
Statement by The Rt. Rev. M. Thomas Shaw, S.S.J.E. on Cardinal Law's resignation: The resignation of Cardinal Bernard Law as Archbishop of Boston marks the end of an era; we pray that it will also be an opportunity for a new beginning in the life of the Roman Catholic Church in Boston. Cardinal Law has made great contributions to the life of the church, to interfaith dialogue, and to care for the poor and marginalized. We pray for him as our brother in Christ during a time of personal anguish. We pray as well for the faithful in the Archdiocese of Boston, for healing of the many wounds they and victims of abuse have suffered, and for a renewed spirit of hope for their community. We extend to the new leadership of the Archdiocese, as well as to the continuing lay and religious leaders, the peace of Christ and look forward to continuing the great work of reconciliation the church is called to pursue. |
