Statement of Senator Edward M. Kennedy on Cardinal Law’s resignation:

At this time of great turmoil in our church, the Cardinal’s decision to resign was the right thing to do for the victims, their families, the church and the whole of the Catholic community. The Cardinal’s decision will allow the church and the people of Boston to have the long awaited relief that will allow us to begin to heal our wounds as we ask for the blessing of closure. Real closure is far off for the victims, their families and all that are hurt by the terrible pain of this ordeal, but today is a first step toward a new dawn in our hearts and in our church.
