Save us (again), Pedro

A second close loss to the Yankees has put the Red Sox in quite a hole. Or maybe we have 'em right where we want 'em. Just ask the Indians what happens when you go two games up on the Sox.

Can Pedro Martinez save the season, or are we pretty much done with baseball in Boston for the century?

Last night proved the curse of the Bambino is not a hoax.
What ever lucky breaks the Yankee's could get they got. Whatever unlucky breaks there were the Sox got.
Ramone threw the same strikes that Cone threw just didn't get the same call.
And how many times did they have to play the "almost" homeruns that missed by centimeters of the back wall.
Those damn yankees are just outright lucky.

Chris, Boston
I am still confident in the Red Sox as long as we take two out of the three home games this weekend. No doubt that Padro will give the bull pen a much needed rest for game four. If we do take two out of three at home then we can start Ramon in game six and Padro in game seven. Winning game three is huge! Being down one after three games is no big deal in a best of seven series.......

Home Cooking!!!
Sweep at home and its a new ball game!!

I love the decisions Jimi Williams has made all year up until his decision to leave R. Martinez in for the 7th. The Man pitched brilliantly, but is still recovering from arm surgery and has not pitched over 100 pitches all year. You've got Pat Rapp in the Pen who could have provided at least two innings of relief. I also have no confidence in Butch Huskey as a pinch hitter and believed that a squeeze should have been in order, except for the fact that Butch "the Mets didnt even want me" Huskey probably couldnt have laid one down.

Nicci, Boston
The Sox will come back-no worries

Stella, Cambridge
Done with baseball for the century? In your effort to create controversy and sensational seediness (a la your very pathetic recent poll: Who is Better Looking, Nomar or Derek?), you've somehow missed the fact that, despite the outcomes, we've now seen two great baseball games.

Priscilla, Wichita, KS
They coulda, shoulda, won the first two games. Varitek should have been charged with an error on Nixon's outstanding throw. He should be told to remove his mask so he can see the ball clearly. Nixon should have received an assist and accolades for saving the game. The run should have been unearned. The second game was so heartbreaking! The RS hit the ball harder and more hits than the Yankees and deserved to win. If they don't lose heart, they can still come back and win in 7. I am greatly anticipating Saturday's match up -- one for the ages. And hopefully there will be a second one in the 7th game, with the Sox winning, of course!

Carl, Duncan, OK
We need the ghost of Coach Ernie Pantuso to throw out the first pitch Saturday to chase the Curse of the you-know-who.

Joe, Boston
Clock is about to strike 12 on the sox.....and Pedro is going to turn into to a stiff.

Carlos Peguero, JP
I HOPE PEDRO WILL BRING THAT CONFIDENCE BACK TO THE REST OF THE TEAM SINCE THE LOST THE FIRST 2 GAMES JUST BY ONE RUN DIFFERENCE..
BUENA SUERTE PEDRO

Chris, Boston
We blew the first two, now they gotta get the next three here...It can be done...Don't give up yet!! The Sox need to get more aggressive...with the bases loaded and one out, tell Huskey to bunt for a suicide squeeze...at least make a play...The crowd has to be the 10th player for us this weekend...Everybody get FIRED UP!!!

Kris, Brighton
The playoffs are about two things:
1. Good pitching.
2. TIMELY hitting.
Ramon pitched suprisingly well and long but besides Pedro (MVP) this team has average pitching and I'm still waiting to see some timely hitting in the ALCS. The Yankees put out a quality pitcher every night and haven't hit well but have hit when it counts.

Dave, W. Roxbury
I have just one question for the Boston Sports Media and Fans this morning. After so much emphasis was placed on the bad call "costing" the Red Sox the game in Game One (and there was no guarantee that they would have scored), why is it that nothing is being said about the blown call at Second Base last night that (with 2 outs) "Gave" the Red Sox their two runs on Nomar's homer? Had the out been properly recorded as an out on the steal, there is no two-run homerun. It is no longer a discussion of inches and two losses by two runs. It's a Game Two Shutout by the Yankees.

Steve, Bristol, CT.
I think they were doomed from the beginning. They played over their heads most of the year and it is now starting to show. They have one pitcher and an average hitting team with below average defense.

Rob, Clearwater
I only watch the Red Sox on old crappy tvs so I don't feel bad bashing them in when they leave baserunner after baserunner stranded in a one run game! I am so sick of them swinging on the first pitch and popping up or flying out and giving the Yankees pitchers easy innings. They're not winning becasue they don't deserve to win, the Yankees aren't killing them, they just can't get over the hump. See ya next year.

Bomber, NY
You pathetic Sox fans!!! Yuk Yuk. Your team are a bunch of wimps. They can't deliver in the clutch. The only delivering around the Sox is the Pizza delivery guy, who comes at least 4 times a game to deliver stuff to Garces and Beck. The Sox are dead. Nomar is their only decent offensive player. Everyone knows the series is over. The Yankees not only represent the beautiful city of NY, they represent everything that is pure and good. The Sox represent drunkeness and laziness. Go Yanks. Beat up on Pedro so we can move on to dispose of the Braves.

Tony C., Swampscott
We've got them right where we want them....

Dave, Brighton
Too many blown chances by the bullpen and too many men left on base are the reasons for the hole the Red Sox are in. The Sox are not playing the Indians, a team that had NO PITCHING. There is little or no chance that the Red Sox can dig themselves out of yet another 0-2 hole, especially against a team like the Yankees.

Andrew, Dedham
If the Sox can win Saturday with Pedro then we are in excellent shape because Pettitte has been struggling for the Yankees. Also both games in New York were one run games even with those hostile environments, I anticipate the Sox to show everyone that they belong here when they return to Friendly Fenway. Plus the Sox would have won the game last night if they just had about three more feet combined on Varitek's triple and O'Leary's double. Have faith everybody. This is fate that we're going against the Yankees. Go Red Sox!!!!!
