Save us (again), Pedro
A second close loss to the Yankees has put the Red Sox in quite a hole. Or maybe we have 'em right where we want 'em. Just ask the Indians what happens when you go two games up on the Sox.
Can Pedro Martinez save the season, or are we pretty much done with baseball in Boston for the century?

How close was it? If Jason Varitek and Troy O'Leary had each eaten ONE MORE WHEATIE for breakfast yesterday the Red Sox would have won.

Sorry Boston, your Dead Sox are done, Clemens is going to out duel your savior, Pedro, and the Yankees are going to cap off the sweep Sunday with Pettite. The Yankees are going to then go on to beat ATL and take their 25th championship this century. GO YANKS

I called a SWEEP by the Yankees before the first game. The Sox played an emotional series with the Indians. They have come back down from that and their weaknesses are showing against a championship team.

The Yankees win because they pull together as a team and get the job done. They don't go out there expecting one or two guys to pull the weight of 9! You can whine about bad calls (of which the Red Sox got to benefit from two last night) and almost HRs, but when it comes down to it, the team just doesn't get the runs on the board. Don't get me wrong, I think the Red Sox did a good job this year, but they have to be better! The Yankees win when it counts and it's going to take a lot more than Boston talking trash about NY to take them this weekend, Pedro or not! Boston, put your bats where your mouths are!!!

Did you ever think that the Yankees, as much as we have grown to hate them, have a better team ? I am a lifelong fan of the Red Sox, and this year they came into both series as the underdog and were edged by one run in each Yankee game. Why should any of the losses be tied to a curse ? We finished slightly behind the Yankees in the standings for a reason - they have more good players in their lineup. We have the best pitcher plus a great shortstop, but they have more good players. We have Valentin and O'Leary, who are streak hitters, granted. Our closers are not as good as Rivera. Saberhagen is no longer as good as Cone, and we may find out that Clemens can still get the job done. I wish the Sox well but I am being realistic.

No Blown Calls!? What game were you watching? Replays clearly showed that Jose Offerman should have been called out trying to steal second base in the fifth inning. The umpires mistake led to the Sox scoring two runs since Nomar would not have hit his home run if the umpire had made the correct call. However despite this blown call the Yankees overacme this poor call and came back and won. The Yankees are about winning not whining...

We need a centerfielder who can hit. Lewis is a major liability in the order And Daubach in the 3 spot is getting us nowhere. He can't handle quality pitching. Put Stanley at first and DH Huskey.

They will be back, and they will be back with a vengeance! To quote Phil Collins, "When destiny calls you, you've got to hold on...."

I guess I wish they'd relax. Cone got out of a man-on-third-with-one-out early in the game on TWO PITCHES. What's that all about? Calm down men, play not only to win but to kill, and relax. Watch a few pitches go by. Slow down on your throws and tags. Be confident. Beat these bastards in a way to make Bucky Dent fade away; beat New York at the Stadium in game six on a long, slow, poke by the pole.

Never give up. So we lost two close, generally well played, exciting, dramatic, quality baseball games. Enjoy it, and stay positive. You never know.

After the Sox/Tribe series, I started seeing how good the Red Sox is. They find a way to put themselves in a position to win. Being a yankee fan, I was scared of playing the Sox. I'd much rather play the Indians. However, we have seen two great games. They have been nerve racking, and true yankee fans will feel relieved that the yankees won both games because it could have gone either way. Furthermore, I don't believe all this hoax about the curse of the Bambino. I think its just something about nothing. The Red Sox came from two down to beat the Indians. This is something very few teams have done. As for some Sox fans who think the Sox didn't get any breaks, may I point you to two occasions last night. Chuck Knoublauch was called out on a base stealing attempt, while he was safe. TV replays from different angles showed it. Secondly, Offerman should have been called out on his base stealing attempt. Again, Tv replays showed that he was clearly tagged before he touched the bag. After, that play, Nomar smashed a two run home run. So you can't say the Sox, haven't had any breaks. The only difference, is that the yanks have been in this position before, they have more experience and they know what it takes to win.
Its automatic, that game three will go to Sox, but if the yanks somehow find a way to beat Pedro, the series is over.
The Sox have done enough to deserve to be 2 - 0 in this best of seven series, but so have the yankees.
May the better team win.
Peter, Dracut
The Sox have had some tough breaks.
The eighth inning is still being played in my mind.
Well, we've got Pedro tomorrow so I think it will be a 2-1
Yankee lead after tomorrow.
I think we are very capable of coming back and that Pedro
will get our confidence back tomorrow with a victory.

2 DOWN 2 TO GO.....ROGER THE ROCKET WILL FLAME PEDRO!!!
Monty, E. Boston
"We've got them right where we want them?" Just when I thought Red Sox fans couldn't get more pathetic, there they go again. Why hasn't anyone complained about the bad call on Offerman's stolen base? What a bunch of losers. A "blue collar team" What a joke. As if the Sox DON'T have one of the top 5 salaries in the league! 1918!1918!1918!
Yankees Fan, NY
the yanks have proved yet again why they are world champs. it doesn't matter what the score is a win is a win. so stop crying about it. the sux had a good year but they are overachieving maybe you'll get a ring in 2018
Gregg, Winchester
There's no place like home. Sox will take both back at home and get the town fired up again. Come flying into the Bronx and take from from the Yanks, then finish them off in Boston. 4 in ROW, starting and ending with Pedro!
Rand, Leominster
those who believe in the curse would say we lost 2 games due to an admitted wrong call and four inches of blue wall. those who don't would say the red sox's performances, especially thursday, were just plain unacceptable.
Jason, Brookline
Listen, so we are down 2-0, big deal. We've played two great games, lost by a hair, and we're still in it. Pedro pitches tonight, our bats come alive, boom win #1. Pettit pitches Sun, we shell him get to the bullpen, and boom win #2. The Yanks are not infallabe. They have given us there #1 and #2 pitcher and we've kept it close. A couple of more inches and both games would be different. The Sox are going to do it this year. The curse is over with, Babe is done with, and the Magic of Fenway is with us. Anyone who doesn't believe this should stop being a fan now.
Robert, Burbank, CA
Two down. The Sox have the Yanks right where they want them. This is wacky '99 and every time someone pronounces the sox dead, they come back and play more baseball. Jimy Williams is not a great manager, Dan Duquette is hardly a great GM, but their decisions have ended up in with positive results.
There's no explanation for it. Ramon pitched his heart out and gets stuck with the loss. If you look at the averages, the sox have gotten isolated production from valentin, o'leary, varitek and daubach. These guys have had super individual efforts when the team had to have it. Now, they have to come through again. nomar, offerman, and stanley have gone beyond the call of duty at the plate.
The sox pitching has been terrific in the yankee series considering they have no idea from inning to inning who is going to pitch. You get almost 7 inning from a rehab project (Ramon) and in game 1, garces looks like lamar hoyt in his prime. Even 4 out of mercker is like some gravy for this ER staff (beck? gordon? saberhagen??. . .they kept bret on the roster. did dan and jimy even watch the indian series when sabes threw?? meatballs. rapp is sounding really good right now, which tells me this is bizarro world. hell, even wakefield could argue a stay on the hill over bret. sorry, bret.)
Sox fans can say the team is cursed, but how cursed can a team that is in the postseason after winning a thrilling 3-of-5 vs. the Tribe really be? Pedro in the Fen against the Rocket. You know the fun hasn't even begun in this series yet.
Yankee Hater, Boston
Stella, leaving 13 men on base, 8 in scoring position is not great baseball. Let's face it, Jimy got the best out of his troops this year, but they just do not have offensive fire power they need. Come to think of it that's the same problem the Bruins have had for the last 25 yrs.
