Florida bride charged with battery on guest

By Reuters, 08/22/01

CRYSTAL RIVER, Fla. -- A Florida bride consummated her nuptials with a wedding brawl and a night in jail on a charge of battering a guest, police said Wednesday.

The bride, Kathy Naylor, 28, was jailed on a charge of battery when she visited a wedding guest hours after exchanging vows with Larry Naylor Sunday, police said.

The ceremony and reception took place in the back yard of the Naylors' mobile home in the central Florida Gulf Coast town of Homosassa, a police report said.

The couple hosted 30 guests and a fight broke out during the reception. "They made up before leaving," police said.

Later, the bride wanted to have a talk with 28-year-old guest Geraldine Edward, whose boyfriend had been involved in the wedding rumble, police said.

When the arresting officer arrived at Edward's home, the "door was off the hinges and a bookcase was pushed over."

Edwards told police that Kathy Naylor broke down the door and smacked her in the head. Edwards said she struck Naylor back with the phone while trying to call 911, according to the police report.

Naylor's husband posted the $500 bond Monday with their honeymoon fund.
