PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) — Voters in Rhode Island have endorsed $50 million in upgrades at the Rhode Island College campus.

A referendum approving bonds to pay for the work passed in Tuesday’s election.

The college expects to use the money to modernize two university classroom buildings and expand the school’s nursing and health sciences building.

College officials say the work will make the buildings more energy efficient and bring classrooms up to 21st-century standards. Some of the buildings slated for work haven’t had a significant upgrade since the 1960s.end of story marker
