MANCHESTER, N.H. (AP) — New Hampshire middle school students who have been building robots designed to help senior citizens are coming together to compete and show off their creations.

The FIRST LEGO League state championship is being held Saturday in Manchester and will involve 50 teams who were challenged to come up with creative ways to help older people maintain a good quality of life.

The teams spent eight weeks programing LEGO robots and exploring themes such as mobility, flexibility, balance and memory.

FIRST, which stands for For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology, is an organization founded by inventor Dean Kamen.end of story marker
