CENTRAL FALLS, R.I. (AP) — The mayor-elect of Central Falls has named the head of the city’s school board of trustees to head his transition team.
James Diossa said Thursday that Anna Cano Morales will serve as his transition coordinator effective immediately. Cano Morales says the transition team will focus on an ethics ordinance, a jobs plan and a schools plan. She will be paid with campaign funds.
Diossa handily defeated former Police Chief Joseph Moran in a special election Tuesday to replace Charles Moreau, who resigned in September. Moreau has pleaded guilty to a federal corruption charge.
A state receiver runs Central Falls, which went through a municipal bankruptcy that officially ended in October.
Cano Morales is a Central Falls native whose family helped establish the Colombian community in Rhode Island in the 1960s and 1970s.
