HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) — Six hundred students from around Connecticut are participating in simulated meeting of the United Nations General Assembly this weekend in Hartford.

More than 20 high schools are represented at the event running through Saturday at the University of Hartford.

Teams of students representing different member nations meet to discuss the most pressing global issues and discuss ways to resolve them.

Conard High School in West Hartford, for example, is representing Mexico, United States and Venezuela. Southington High School is representing Germany, Israel and Switzerland.

The Model United Nations is sponsored by the World Affairs Council, a nonprofit dedicated to promoting understanding of global affairs and world issues.end of story marker
