Health Department confirms norovirus
BRIDPORT, Vt. (AP) — The Vermont Health Department has confirmed norovirus, also known as the stomach flu, in one of the many people who became sick at Bridport Central School.
The school remained closed on Friday after about 80 students and staff went home or called in sick earlier in the week.
The district cancelled school Thursday and Friday while the building is sanitized.
Symptoms included diarrhea and vomiting.
The Vermont Health Department said Friday that it had suspected norovirus due to the rapid onset of symptoms and how widespread the illness was, sickening 90 percent of students and 30 percent of staff.
Norovirus usually lasts 24 to 60 hours after exposure. It can spread quickly in closed settings such as schools because it is easily transmitted from person to person.![]()
