Eugene Isenberg, Chelsea native-turned-Texas-oilman, gave his alma mater $6 million in 1996 — the largest donation in the school’s history at the time — and UMass repaid the favor by affixing his name to its school of management. The bulk of the money helped fund an addition to the school’s main management building, and Isenberg continues to support various scholarships at the school. The 1950 economics grad and former CEO of gas-drilling giant Nabors Industries has been notably less generous with his Ivy League grad school alma mater, though, telling the New York Times in 2006 that “Princeton didn’t need it.”
