BENNINGTON, Vt. (AP) — Students studying philanthropy at Southern Vermont College concluded their spring semester studies by awarding grants to three community organizations in the Bennington area.
The course designed by Professor Jeb Gorham split 18 students into three teams and had them write requests for proposals and then score the applicants before selecting the recipients of three $1,600 grants.
The awards were funded by the Bank of Bennington.
The Friends of Hiland Hall Gardens received an award to fund a gardening program for children between the ages of 5 and 16.
Another went to Southwestern Vermont Health Care that will use the money to enhance fitness and cooking classes for employees.
The third award went to the Center for Restorative Justice for an after-school program that offers activities and help with homework.
