WORCESTER, Mass. -- The College of the Holy Cross in Worcester will offer free tuition to city residents whose families earn less than $50,000 a year.
Holy Cross president Michael McFarland says the school is committed to helping families who would otherwise not be able to afford a four-year education. The program begins with the freshman class this fall but will not apply to students already enrolled.
The college estimates the plan will cost about $1.4 million.
To take advantage of free tuition, students would first have to get into the school and that won't necessarily be easy. Holy Cross accepted only about one-third of all applicants last year.![]()
