Yale student to serve a year in prison on weapons charges
NEW HAVEN, Conn.—A 22-year-old Yale student has begun serving a one-year prison term after pleading no contest to charges of reckless endangerment and the illegal possession of assault weapons.
David Light was arrested after allegedly shooting blanks from a semiautomatic pistol into the ceiling of the common room at Beta Theta Pi fraternity last July 16. Police say they confiscated 11 guns, including two assault rifles, and a stockpile of chemicals and ammunition from his room.
Light, a biology major from California, was about to start his junior year when he was arrested and suspended from school. Yale says he remains on "administrative suspension."
He entered his no contest pleas last week.![]()
