CONCORD, N.H.—Nursing programs are getting a boost at two New Hampshire schools.
Franklin Pierce University has won a federal grant for its nursing program and New Hampshire Technical Institute in Concord has broken ground on a new nursing classroom building.
Both are designed to help head off a nursing shortage in the state.
The $146,000 Franklin Pierce grant is designed to offer nurses instruction on advanced degrees. U.S. Rep. Paul Hodes says government studies show a shortage of nurses in the state is growing, and may be compounded by the inability of nurses to study in the state for more advanced degrees.
NHTI says its new building will allow its nursing program to bring in about 50 more students a year. Former U.S. Rep. Charles Bass helped win federal money for the project, which also was supported by more than 500 individuals, corporations, foundations, faculty, alumni and students.
