High-tech computing center on track
A consortium of universities and technology companies is on track to start building a “green’’ high-technology computing center in Holyoke next fall, Governor Deval Patrick’s office said yesterday. The group includes the University of Massachusetts, MIT, Boston University,
The computer center will house high-performing computers capable of complicated calculations and sophisticated research, something that will provide the research structure universities desperately need to attract funding, said Jack Wilson, UMass president.
“Today if you want a high-tech industry and great research universities, you need to have this kind of technology available,’’ Wilson said. Nearly $82 million of the $168 million needed has been raised by universities, industry, and the state and federal government, Wilson said.![]()
