CAMBRIDGE, Mass.—Harvard University has unveiled a plaque honoring alumni who were recipients of the Medal of Honor, spanning a period from the Civil War to the Vietnam War.

The solemn Veterans Day ceremony was held at Memorial Church -- where the names of all of Harvard's war dead are listed -- and attended Wednesday by members of the armed services and relatives or descendants of the 16 Medal of Honor recipients.

Army Chief of Staff Gen. George Casey said they were men who not only believed in the values of their country but were willing to fight for them.

Harvard President Drew Gilpin Faust said the university was proud to be a part of the lives of some "remarkable Americans."
