Sitting on her neatly made bed, Melissa Brown, a Suffolk University freshman from Manhasset, N.Y., marveled at the view of Downtown Crossing. Her spacious, carpeted bedroom and spotless bathroom, all shared with roommate Briana Moccia of Wakefield, looked more like those found in luxury apartments than the community bathrooms and showers found at many other dormitories.
