Clement Clarke Moore is widely recognized as the author of “The Night Before Christmas,’’ the classic holiday poem first published, anonymously, in 1823. But was he? A competing claim has been made for Henry Livingston Jr. by his descendants, bolstered by a newly published edition of the poem that bears Livingston’s name on the title page.
