UMass students arrested on drug charges
DARTMOUTH, Mass.—Two UMass-Dartmouth students have been arrested after police say they seized about $20,000 worth of drugs from their off-campus apartment.
Jason Cauley and Daniel Wharton, both 20, were charged with possession of Class D drugs and conspiracy to violate drug laws. Cauley was also charged with possession of a Class B drug with intent to distribute and possession of a Class E drug.
They pleaded not guilty at their arraignment.
Police say on Tuesday detectives confiscated about 3 1/2 pounds of marijuana, 35 grams of Ecstasy, five Alprazolam tablets and eight bottles containing a substance believed to contain liquid THC, a principal chemical in cannabis, from their apartment. Police also seized drug paraphernalia, a digital scale and $833 in cash.
A university spokesman says students facing such charges are immediately suspended.![]()
