Still no agreement in Nashua teacher dispute

NASHUA, N.H.—There still is no agreement in the Nashua (New Hampshire) teacher contract dispute.

Negotiations between the teachers union and School Board broke off yesterday for a second time this week. Both sides will return to the table tomorrow.

The teachers union has threatened to strike Monday unless an agreement is reached. The union has said the board of aldermen and mayor must also indicate their willingness to sign on to an agreement before a strike could be called off.

If an agreement is reached during the weekend, it would give aldermen and mayor little time to react.

The teachers have been working without a contract after almost two years of negotiations.

It is illegal for public employees to strike in New Hampshire, and Nashua's school superintendent has told teachers if they strike, they would be suspended and could be fired.
