PROVIDENCE, R.I.—Rhode Island health authorities have opened school-based swine flu vaccination clinics, the same day they announced the second death of a child with flu-like symptoms.
State health department spokeswoman Annemarie Beardsworth said Monday the state is investigating the weekend death of a girl under 18 who had a flu-like illness. Health officials are trying to determine if the girl, a student at Lincoln Middle School, had swine flu.

The voluntary school vaccinations began on Monday for children whose parents have signed a consent form. The clinics for middle and high school students will take place during the school day, while elementary school students can get vaccinated in the afternoon and evening.![]()
