CENTRAL FALLS, R.I.
The head of the Central Falls teachers union is skipping a national conference intended to improve relations between teachers and schools because she says the district is not willing to establish real collaboration. Union president Jane Sessums said attending the conference would be insincere. Superintendent Frances Gallo said she is disappointed with Sessums’ decision because she said she is trying to move contract negotiation from adversarial to being a conversation about how to best serve students. Central Falls High School made national headlines last year when it fired, then rehired, its entire teaching staff.![]()
