The School Committee’s policy subcommittee will meet at 5 p.m. on Tuesday in the superintendent’s office at Malden Government Center to discuss the district’s kindergarten age requirement. Currently, a child must be age 5 by Aug. 31 to enroll. But for the 2010-2011 school year, a Malden youngster missed the cutoff by just one day, prompting some School Committee members to think about ways to accommodate students, provided there are open slots. “If we have room, and a child who just barely misses the cutoff is ready to go, we should have a policy in place as to how we handle that,’’ said Kevin Duffy, the School Committee member from Ward 3, who is not seeking reelection next week. - Kathy McCabe
