STOWE, Vt.—Skiing and snowboarding are now the official state sports of Vermont.
On Thursday at the ski museum in Stowe, Vermont Gov. Peter Shumlin signed into law on Thursday a bill first suggested by a group of fifth and sixth graders from Swanton.
With the help of teachers and a lawmaker. The students researched various sports and testified on behalf of their proposal in the Legislature.
The proposal received final approval earlier this year.
Vermont is believed to be the third state with skiing and snowboarding as a state sport.
And those elementary school students? They're now 15- and 16-year-old-high school students.
