Malloy to hold 11th Conn. school reform hearing
NORWALK, Conn.—Gov. Dannel P. Malloy is holding his 11th town hall meeting on overhauling Connecticut's public education system.
The event will be held Tuesday at West Rocks Middle School in Norwalk, from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Malloy plans to hold more meetings until the General Assembly approves a bill addressing six principals he has proposed. They include expanding early childhood opportunities, authorizing the changes needed to turn around low-performing schools and districts, and expanding the availability of high-quality school models, including traditional, magnet and charter schools.
Malloy also wants to cut red tape, make changes to the state's seniority and tenure laws and target resources to needy districts.
The legislature's Education Committee recently approved a revamped bill. Malloy has said further negotiations are necessary before he'll sign it into law.
