PARK or CULTURAL SITE
Big Dig ramps make putting a park here difficult, so Turnpike Authority
has sought modest development instead. Proposals include arts or
cultural structures: A $40 million New Center for the Arts and Culture
(far left), designed by Daniel Libeskind, architect of the new World
Trade Center in New York; a $89 million Boston Museum designed by
Moshe Safdie (left); or a $55 million theater and restaurant complex
designed by Manjushri Prakash.

BOTANICAL GARDENS
Formerly the Garden Under Glass sponsored
by the Massachusetts Horticultural Society, it
is now the Darwin Project, led by former BRA
planner Linda Haar and husband, Jonathan.
The project, which will cover more than 3 acres
and has a $70 million fund-raising goal, is still
being designed.
