Robbery suspect faces 14 charges
By Globe Staff
A Lowell man was arraigned today on 11 charges in connection with a robbery, chase, and shooting of a Tewksbury police officer on Wednesday.
Joseph Croteau, 29, was also arraigned on three charges relating to a robbery in Lowell on Tuesday. He pleaded not guilty to all the charges and was ordered held on $750,000 bail.
Croteau faces four charges in the robbery Wednesday of a gas station store in Tewksbury.
He faces more serious charges in the shooting of Tewksbury police Officer Brian O'Neill, who suffered a superficial wound to the leg as he tackled Croteau after a high-speed car chase that ended in Billerica when Croteau's van collided with a police cruiser and crashed into a telephone pole. Croteau is charged with armed assault with intent to murder, two counts of assault and battery on a police officer, and four other counts in connection with the confrontation with police.
