Man arraigned in East Boston slaying
By John R. Ellement, Globe Staff
A man was ordered held without bail after pleading not guilty today to charges of murdering his estranged wife in her East Boston apartment.
Police arrested Whitney Baskin, 46, on Saturday night after he fled the crime scene in a white Ford. Three children inside the apartment called 911 when they found Velveena Baskin on the floor after an alleged altercation with her husband. She was pronounced dead at Massachusetts General Hospital on Sunday.
Prosecutors said in East Boston District Court this morning she was hit with a sharp instrument and suffered a head wound.
