CHELSEA -- A New Hampshire woman charged with killing a 24-year-old Wilmington, Mass., man and burning his body waived extradition this morning and will be arraigned in Exeter, N.H. district court on murder charges later today or tomorrow morning.
Acting on a tip from the public, Sheila LaBarre, 47, of Epping, N.H., was arrested Sunday at the Northgate Shopping Center in Revere without incident. Her attorney, Jeffrey Denner, said LaBarre had $30,000 in cash on her and a cashier's check for $50,000 when she was apprehended.
Assistant New Hampshire Attorney General Peter Odom said police considered her a flight risk. He refused to talk about the murder investigation or a motive.
LaBarre was wanted in New Hampshire on a warrant for first-degree murder in connection with the death of Kenneth Countie, who recently moved to New Hampshire from Wilmington, and had been living with LaBarre on her 115-acre horse farm in Epping for several weeks.
Countie was last seen on the farm on March 17 and was reported missing March 23 by his family. Authorities allege that LaBarre killed Countie around March 21 in Epping, then incinerated his body.
