Construction worker killed in Cambridge
By Mac Daniel, Globe Staff
CAMBRIDGE -- A worker was killed in a construction site accident in Cambridge this afternoon.
Authorities say the worker apparently fell in a lift used to transport cargo on the side of a building at Technology Square. The accident happened shortly before 1 p.m.
Cambridge firefighters and paramedics are trying to extricate the worker's body from the lift some six stories above the ground. A fire department spokesman said the effort will take several hours and is a difficult process.
The cause of the fall is under investigation by Cambridge and federal workplace safety officials. The identity of the worker has not been released pending notification of his family.
