A US Airways shuttle from Washington, D.C., was swept by federal security officers and Massachusetts State Police search dogs at Logan International Airport this morning after a flight attendant found the word "boom" etched in a lavatory mirror.

USAir Flight 2024 was en route to Boston when the discovery was made, prompting the pilot to call ahead to authorities, who were waiting when the plane landed safely with 63 passengers on board. All passengers and crew left the plane safely before the search, which found nothing suspicious.

Authorities at the Massachusetts Port Authority, which runs the airport, said the airline might cancel the plane's return to Washington because of the difficulty removing the word from the mirror. Officials said there was no panic on the plane and that the search was conducted as a security precaution. A spokeswoman for the federal Transportation Security Administration called the incident a "non-event."
