A 20-year-old Wareham man was arraigned today in New Bedford District Court on charges he stashed more than $5,000 worth of crack cocaine, powder cocaine, and OxyContin in the crib of a 1-year-old boy, police said.

Richard St. George and his girlfriend, Stephanie Bator, 22, of Taunton – the baby’s mother – were arrested in a Hampton Inn in Fairhaven Monday on charges of trafficking in cocaine, possession of OxyContin with intent to distribute, and conspiracy to violate drug laws.

"It's appalling any time we find drugs or weapons with small children," said Fairhaven police Sergeant Michael Botelho, who arrested the couple. "Unfortunately, it's all too common."

The child, who was unharmed, is now in the custody of the state Department of Social Services, Botelho said.
