Shotgun found in Boston school locker
By John R. Ellement, Globe Staff
A sawed off shotgun was found this morning inside a high school student's locker in the Dorchester Education complex after police conducted an inspection, a school department spokesman said.
The spokesman and Boston Police said the student, 16, whose identity was not released, was cooperating with authorities and an investigation is underway to determine how the weapon, which was disassembled, made it inside the school past metal detectors.
The search of the locker was prompted when a school police officer discovered a knife inside the student's jacket.
School officials said there was no indication the student intended to use the weapon in the school or against his classmates. Ammunition was also found in the locker. Classes were conducted as usual this morning.
