Man in critical condition after South Station mishap
By Stephanie M. Peters, Globe correspondent
A White Plains, N.Y. man who suffered burns to nearly 85 percent of his body when he climbed atop an Acela Express train at South Station Sunday morning remains in critical condition today in the burn unit of Massachusetts General Hospital, said Joe Pesaturo, spokesman for the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority.
Brian Hopkins, 24, was found on the roof of the Amtrak train, where he came into contact with a 25,000-volt line, by firefighters shortly after 4 a.m. and was transported to MGH.
Authorities suspect he was intoxicated at the time, however the incident remains under investigation, a spokesman for the fire department said.
