The state of Massachusetts will receive an additional $4.7 million in federal aid to help prepare for a possible influenza pandemic.

The US Department of Health and Human Services said the extra funding is part of a $225 million nationwide increase in funding to help state and local governments fill in gaps in preparedness. The agency said that Massachusetts received about $2.1 million of the first $100 million in grants awarded nationally in February.
