DOVER, N.H. – Police are investigating the slaying of woman shot inside her home on Silver Street early this morning and are questioning a person who “was involved in the homicide,” according to a statement from the state attorney general’s office.
Lauralee B. Perkins, 36, died at her apartment after she was shot, said police, who declined to identify the person in custody.
“It was not a random shooting,” said Assistant Attorney General Peter Odom. “There is no reason for the public to be alarmed.”
The written statement from the state attorney general said, “An individual who was involved in the homicide is currently in police custody.”
Investigators have recovered a weapon, but police declined to describe it.
Neighbors said they awoke to sirens at about 4:30 a.m. Investigators removed a body at about 11:30 a.m. from a ground floor apartment where two women live, a few blocks from downtown.
An autopsy is scheduled to be conducted Wednesday by the chief medical examiner at Concord Hospital. Investigators have released no other details about the case.
