Woman in critical condition after Brockton fire
By John R. Ellement, Globe staff
The woman who was most seriously injured in the four alarm fire in Brockton on Thursday was listed this morning in critical condition at Massachusetts General Hospital.
Olinda Calderon was among four people -- including Calderon's one month old daughter -- who were rescued by Brockton firefighters from the third floor bathroom of a three family on Montello street early Thursday morning.
At least five people jumped out the window of the second floor of the building and were helped to safety by Russell A. Reynolds, who was driving past when he saw the flames, jumped out and alerted residents to the fire that quickly devoured all three floors of the building.
Bridget Norton Middleton, spokeswoman for Plymouth County District Attorney Timothy J. Cruz, said today that investigators are still searching for the cause of the massive fire and the location of where it started inside the three family building located at the corner of Montello and Temple streets in Brockton.
State police assigned to Cruz' office along with the Office of the State Fire Marshall and Brockton police and fire departments are investigating.
